Emma is an experienced nurse who has practiced within neurorehabilitation, learning disability and mental health services. She has worked with both adults and children with complex health and social care needs. It was while qualifying as a registered nurse, working in a specialist hospital in York that Emma first established a keen interest in the support and treatment of people with an acquired brain injury. She went on to gain experience in a range of nursing roles. In 2016 Emma set up a support service in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire within the Compassionate Friends Charity called SIBBS (support in bereavement for brothers and sisters) while working as a nurse, addressing the lack of support available for the people affected within the local area. Specialising in behavioural/cognitive therapy and dementia awareness gave Emma opportunities to advance her practice and take on the responsibility of working in deputy/clinical lead nurse positions, prior to becoming a case manager.
